Introduction
Two directories on different computers can be kept in sync with PowerFolder. Using a Automatic Synchronization transfer mode, any changes or deletions to the files in a directory can be replicated on the other computer's directory.
First Computer
To begin mirroring two directories, start PowerFolder on one computer and click the New (Setup) button. This will open the Wizard, which displays a list of options.
Synchronize
Click the Synchronize computer link. Clicking this link will allow you to select the directory that you wish to synchronize. This shows a number of commonly used directories and also allows you to select a custom directory. To select a custom directory, select the Custom radio button and click the directory select button. This will display a tree representation of your file system. Select the required directory and click OK.
Invitation
After clicking Next on the wizard, the invitation panel is displayed. This allows a PowerFolder invitation to be saved, or sent by email or via PowerFolder to another person. For now, check the Save as file radio button and click the associated button to save a local copy of the invitation. Clicking Next on the invitation panel will complete the creation of the folder.
Second Computer
To synchronize another computer with the one just setup, transfer the stored invitation file to the target computer and click the New (Setup) button. This time, click the Open invitation file link. This will display a panel that allows you to select the invitation file. After the invitation is selected, the Next button will display a directory selection panel which allows you to select the directory associated with the folder. The initial directory displayed will be the same as that of the first computer, but it may be modified if required. Clicking the Next button will complete the folder creation.
Synchronization
Both computers will now synchronize their files every five minutes so that any changes to one folder are replicated on the other.
