Preface

These are the release notes for older versions of PowerFolder Server. You'll find the the latest release notes here.

Version 2.1.0

  • Date of release: 23-Dec-2010
  • Build: 9
  • Client version: 4.4.2
  • Server core version: 4.4.3

Improvements

  • Mobile app: It is now possible to stay logged in. Very useful for frequent users.
  • License warning popup is not longer shown to Administrator if server has correct license.
  • It's now possible to automatically retrieve free 1 GB licenses under Admin/Account/Edit.
  • Server log file download under Admin/Log is now zip compressed.
  • Changed default server admin console admin account to: admin/password.

Bugfixes

  • Fixed web interface not showing up on Linux. Now PowerFolder Server starts by default on port 8080 on Linux (http://localhost:8080). Port 80 is still used on Windows (http://localhost).
  • Fixed Linux start script "PowerFolder.sh".
  • Fixed license adding error when creating new user accounts under Admin/Accounts/Add account.
  • Fixed a problem when trying to add a new folder under Admin/Accounts/Edit account.
  • Fixed white screen problem after creating a new folder in the web portal.
  • Clients do not longer use public http tunnel, but own server http tunnel.
  • Several other minor bugfixes.

Upgrade information

  1. Download PowerFolder Server 2.1.0 from the server download page.
  2. Stop PowerFolder server.
  3. Rename file "PowerFolder-server.jar" to "PowerFolder-server.jar.backup"
  4. Extract all files from the zip or tar-gz distribution file into the installation directory.
  5. Start PowerFolder server.

New Features

  • Brand new web portal front end: Clean, simple and powerful. Much more screen space can now be used for browsing.
  • Mobile web app available for iPhone, iPad and Android devices.
  • E-Mail reporting added: Folder sync report can automatically be sent once a day to the administrator (Admin/Preferences/Mail).
  • Offsite/Cloud backup: Automatically backup your servers data offsite into the PowerFolder cloud space (Admin/Preferences/Licenses & Cloud).
  • Instant web file search: Find any of your files by entering a part of the filename.
  • Folder member permissions can now be changed in the web frontend (Folder/Members).
  • Web based restore/delete function for files and directories: Easily restore deleted files or files from the built-in file archive.
  • Download whole sub-directory as zip file is now possible.
  • Re-coloring and branding made easy: Colors of the web front end can now be changed by easily picking them in the admin console.
  • Added web live-logs under Admin/Log. Server download logs can be viewed and downloaded via web now.
  • SQL Database (e.g. mySQL) support added. Default uses zero-level configuration built-in H2 SQL database.
  • WebDAV interface added.
  • Web front end has now an integrated support button.
  • User account and data can now be seamlessly moved from one cloud server to another.
  • It's now possible to set an valid-from date per account to prevent user access before that date.

Improvements

  • Drastically simplified installation: Server has now a web based online activation wizard. Enter your powerfolder.com account email and password and everything will be setup for you (license key, admin account, cloud connection, license service connection, etc. pp.). So it is not longer required to put the license key in the installation path, but still supported.
  • Added 64 bit support.
  • Changed default web interface port from 8080 to 80. Fallback port is 81 if 80 is already occupied.
  • Changed default transfer mode for folders create on the server to Auto-Sync.
  • Two new view types: Choose between table-based/detail and tiled-based view (similar to the Windows 7 explorer).
  • Folders detail table now shows a warning icon when a folder cannot be/have not been correctly synchronized.
  • Folders detail view: It's now possible to start the cloud backup for folders, that are not yet stored on the server, by one click.
  • Files that have not yet been synced to the server/cloud are now also visible in the web file browser. These are marked with the text "Not yet synced" and can't be downloaded from the server until they are completely synced.
  • Simplified deployment for unbranded/generic clients: Client download page on server now by default offers the right edition from powerfolder.com.
  • Local directory of synced folders can be change via web under Folder/Settings (For server admins only).
  • Script execution after download can now be configured via web under Folder/Settings (For server admins only).
  • Reworked/Restyled web music player.
  • Completely reworked web gallery. Browsing and sharing photos online has never been this easy!
  • Built-in shop products can now have a fully customized descriptions.
  • Server automatically restarts after saving preferences if necessary.
  • Web icons for file types (e.g. TXT, XLS) are now part of the skin.
  • Email template texts can now be in HTML.
  • Many, many, many more improvements.

Note: Web skins created for sever version 1.7.1 or lower won't longer work.

  • Does not longer loose folder default permission under certain conditions.
  • Frontend webinterface: Several corrections of the sub menu
  • Fixed login problem of clients in server cloud.
  • Files containing special characters (e.g. +) in name now can be correctly downloaded.
  • SMTP/Mail settings does not longer ignore username and password for authentication.
  • Fixed bug that sometimes prevented backup from starting on new created folders.
  • Fontend webinterface: Names in folder members list do not longer overlap.

  • Great boost in usability: Completely reworked admin console moved into web. Centrally maintain users, access permissions and easily change settings via web browser.
  • Admin "Dashboard": This welcome page of the server admin console summarizes the most important information for the server administrator (number of users, folders, space usage and more).
  • Admin "Account": Completely ported user account application to the web. Easily create new or change existing user accounts. Now gives full control to grant and revoke permissions to folders.
  • Admin "Preferences": Easily change the basic settings of your server like storage location, email setup, hostname and more.
  • Web-frontend: Reworked web music player.
  • Web-frontend: Added list of own computers.
  • Web-frontend: Possibility to configure and empty the file archive.

Improvements

  • Admin console now correctly shows account usage in a cloud server setup.
  • Possibility to configure the default storage size and days valid for new registered users.
  • Web port (default:8080) now automatically gets opened when using the windows firewall.
  • Improved performance especially for large cloud installations.
  • Several security improvements.
  • Many other improvements.

Bugfixes

  • Fixed memory leak in large scale cloud installations.
  • Fixed "No owner" problem.
  • Removed rare deadlock problem causing transfers to hang.
  • Fixed bug that files did not appear after uploading via web browser (IE).
  • Fixed problem when uploading invitation files with IE.
  • Several other bugfixes.
