Performance optimization

Preface
This article describes how to reduce the required computer resources by PowerFolder, e.g. CPU, Hard disk activity and memory use.
Choosing the appropriate transfer mode
PowerFolder regularly scans the local file system for changed, new or deleted files. During these scans the CPU load and hard disk activity is higher than usual. Choosing (or Customizing) a transfer mode which has longer pauses between file scans (File scan interval) will help to run PowerFolder more smoothly. E.g. raise this interval from one to 10 minutes or even more. This can be done under Folders/Folder/Settings.
Use instant file detection
This option greatly helps to reduce the CPU and harddisk activity. Make sure to reduce the change detection interval of your folders to perform lesser folder scans. This option can be enabled under Preferences/Advanced.
Other tips
- Split up big folders into smaller ones and don't sync/setup sub-folders that do not actually change.
