Connect to
This dropdown list determines how PowerFolder connects to the server. There are three options:
- LAN and Internet - The default setting which is recommended for standard use. Other users can be found on LAN or Internet.
- Server only - PowerFolder only connects to computers on the Internet. No LAN traffic is used.
- LAN only - PowerFolder will not connect to the Internet but you still can add Fixed IPs on the Internet. If you do so PowerFolder will only connect to computers on the LAN and the selected computers. This setup has been chosen multiple times by highly professional administrators to make sure that nobody can access the PowerFolder network from outside the company's LAN (even if he has all data necessary to do so).
Use relayed connections
This setting makes it possible to use PowerFolder without configuring your router and firewall, but requires a connection to our server. Both nodes need to have relayed connection activated to make it work. Routers and firewalls allow outgoing connections and responses from the computer which was contacted. The relayed connection is established from both sides to our server. The server connects both computers and makes it possible to transfer data even if no incoming connections are allowed.
Use UDT connections
If this checkbox is checked, PowerFolder will try to establish a UDT relayed connection if it cannot create a direct TCP connection with another computer.
Use cloud space
If this checkbox is checked, PowerFolder will be enable to use cloud space (online storage) to backup folders at the central server.
Proxy settings
The poxy settings button allows PowerFolder to connect to the internet via a proxy server. This is useful when a computer does not have direct access to the internet but has to have traffic routed via a proxy.
By default, connection is made directly to the internet, but HTTP proxying can be selected. A host name and port need to be specified. If authorization is required, a username and password may be specified.
Internet speed
This setting is really important to PowerFolder. Make sure that the values you select here correct. If you are not sure, it is better to select a lower connection setting. PowerFolder will throttle the data exchange and the network information sent by this setting. If you select a value that is too high, PowerFolder will not work correctly and your Upload/Download values will drop significantly. Unlimited is only for networks that are faster than T3.

Auto detect performs a periodic file upload and download with the central server to judge optimal connection speeds.
Lan speed
This is the speed at which data is transmitted across a local area network.

Server
This is the name of the server that PowerFolder connects to. This should not be changed without advice from the PowerFolder company.
While disconnected
PowerFolder allows various folder permissions; admin, owner, read, etc). This dropdown allows permission checking to be skipped if disconnected from the server, when permissions may not be known.
