Do you need a PowerFolder Server?
From PowerFolder Wiki
A PowerFolder Server is not needed for:
- Server sync:
For example if you want to sync two of your servers directly or create a Backup you will not need to have a PowerFolder server version. This can be done by regular PowerFolder clients.
- Small installations:
If you want to sync a small set of computers with your own server, this can be also done by regular PowerFolder clients.
- Simple Backup to your own server:
If you have some data which you would like to Backup to your own Server from multiple computers. Simply setup regular PowerFolders and invite the computers to them.
A PowerFolder server is recommended for:
- Bigger installations with multiple users:
The PowerFolder server will allow you to manage your users centrally. It simplifies client and license deployment: Auto-configuration of clients from a server located config file and an own network ID, to completely separate your users from the PowerFolder network.
- Own Webinterface:
If you want to give your users access to the data they stored on your server by an own brandable webinterface.
- Own online storage on your own Server instead of PowerFolder online storage:
If you want to make your server the automatic target for online copies of a user created folder, or link multiple servers to one big cloud.
- Reporting
For the case you would like to get Storage and bandwidth usage reports.
- Backup only clients
If you do not wish to allow the clients to sync and share their data directly between their computers you can use the PowerFolder Backup only client, to connect the users with the Server.
