Connect on demand

Preface

By default PowerFolder tries to establish connections to computers on the connection list and keeps these even if no immediate sync needs to be performed. This logic ensures to instantly start the synchronization when folder contents locally or remotely change.

The connect on demand feature changes this behavior by connecting only if any folder needs to be actually synced. Otherwise all connections will be dropped.

This is useful if connections should not permanently kept open. As downside it will delay the sync from remote changed files.

Enabling

This feature can be enabled under Preferences / Pro settings. After enabling all connections usually get dropped.

Connect rule

When activated connections will be established:

  • On startup.
  • When any new, changed or deleted files has been detected in any local folder.
  • Periodically to check if any files have been changed on any remote computer. By default every 60 minutes.

Once the connection is established PowerFolder completes the synchronization if necessary and drops all connections afterwards.
