Base directory

This is the base or root directory in which PowerFolder creates new managed folders by default. At the time folders are created, the actual folder location may be changed. This field allows the base directory to be altered.

Changing the base directory will not relocate any existing folders. It will simply change the default root directory for folders created in the future.

Port

If you don't want PowerFolder to use its default port, enter your custom port here.

Automatically find a port

PowerFolder will choose a port by itself if this box is checked. If you run PowerFolder as a system service this box needs to be enabled if you want to start the GUI.

Automatically open Windows Firewall

PowerFolder will configure the Windows Firewall so it can work. If you don't check this box, you might have to setup the firewall manually.

Interface address

This dropdown allows the network device to be defined. In general, setting the selection to 'Any' will allow PowertFolder to use the most appropriate device.

LAN IP list

This feature is interesting if you want to use PowerFolder in LAN only mode. PowerFolder will connect to this addresses in LAN but also via Internet if the addresses are outside the LAN.

Use ZIP compression

These checkboxes determine whether ZIP compression is used when sending data over the internet or across the LAN. In general, ZIP compression is not appropriate for LAN traffic, due to the higher bandwidth usually available on a LAN connection. Both local and remote computers need to have ZIP compression selected for it to be used.

Use Delta sync

These checkboxes determine whether delta sync is used over the internet or across the LAN. Delta sync allows PowerFolder to transfer only the pieces of a file that have changed, thus reducing the traffic required to synchronize a file.

Multi-source download

These checkboxes determine whether PowerFolder concurrently downloads file parts from multiple sources for a single file. Multi-source download can speed up synchronization times where the latest version of a file is available from multiple sources.

Enable debug logging

Checking this box will activate the debug logging. If you encounter a major problem, the PowerFolder Team may ask you to check this box and restart PowerFolder.

Backup-only client

If this checkbox is checked, PowerFolder behaves as a backup-only client. This means that:

  • Peer-to-peer traffic is disabled and PowerFolder only communicates via the server.
  • The Computers tab is not displayed in the main frame.
  • PowerFolder cannot send invitations.

This mode is intended for backup instances, with a minimum of functionality enabled.
