Hi,

I have just now started to work with PowerFolder. I like it. :-)

Some questions:

1. Question:

I have tested you app with my wlan-net.

One PC is the net with a bottleneck of 10Mbits. On the other side all the PCs has a WLAN-Adepter og 54Mbits. The real speed was according Taskmanager and PowerFolder about 500KB/s (4Mbits). What can be the reason. This was also with options Delta-Sync and Zip the same...

2. Question:

I have generated a host-IP at DynDNS. At the first client was it ok. It was updated. At the second one it was possible no more. What is the reason?

May I use the given IP-Address only at one PF-Client?

Is ist anyway necessary to have a fix IP?

3. Question

I have set a folder with profile "project work". I have though the Sync can be started by any client. It was not so? Only the client which has RECEIVED the Sync was able to start it? Is it ok?

4. Question

There is an option to set the speed for stand-by mode. I have set it upto the maximal level. Is it ok?

5. Question

There is an option to set a list of LAN IPs.

Is it necessary? What is the advantage of it?

Thank you for your response.

With kind regards,

Istike

hi Istike
1.)
Many small files? or a few big one ? which version of Powerfolder? Deltasync and zip will cost you cpu and time to calculate on Lan where transferspeed wis very fast it might be that calculation needs longer than pure transfer.
2.) Dyn-DNS is supposed to create a url under which your system can be reached. I dont think that Dyndns is able to coordinate this if you assign two ips to.

Dyndns1 = dynamic ip 1
and
Dyndns1 = dynamic ip 2
i dont think that will work.
But a DynDns is not required to use Powerfolder it improves a few things (enables webinterface if activated/improves speed to find/connect to friends) but it also raises overhead traffic.

I fixed ip is currently only neccesary for this:
http://wiki.powerfolder.com/wiki/Setup_a_network_with_connections_to_only_selected_ clients

3.) sorry i dont understand exactly the problem is but i take a guess:

The Sync Profiles are ALWAYS local settings: this means you can combine them like you want but if you are choosing project work this is happening:

you will allow others to send you files and to download from you on pressing the button
but if the othe rperson has same settings you have to do there the same. In this way you are able to contoƶ on every comouter what will happen. If you have two systems and you want to sync them on click than perhaps this would work:

Computer 1: project work
Computer 2: mirror

this would do the following:
whenever computer 1 gets synced on click computer 2 will get/give all he has.
i hope this was some answer ;D
see also:
http://www.powerfolder.com/sync_profiles.html.

4.)
The stand by mode should be smaller to take full effect
5.)
The lan ip list is not neccessary in most networks what it does: please see the link posted in 2.)

i hope i could help you if you have more questions please get back here.

Hi Rutkowsky,

thank you very much for your response.

1; This was only one big file (0,8GB)

2; In my Case I have used the same link at two PF-Clients (within the same LAN)

Client 1 - DynDNS1

Client 2 - DynDNS1

3; ok, I understand.

4; what should be the max. level (25%)?

Does this feature really mean, that the transfer goes on even the PC is in Stand-By mode or an other user is logged in. PF is set up in account "administrator" and an other user logs in. Does the transfer work?

5; ok. I understand.

Thank you one again.

Regards,

Istike

Dear istike
about 4.) no it does not it only gets active if you you presh the silent mode button. ( I am not a fan of this feature) and than it reduces the resources and bandwidth powerfolde ris using.
But what you might do if ou want to sync your folders while nobody is logged in and you are using a pro version(basic is not supporting this) you can install powerfolder as an system service. On my vista 64 it worked but its not a completely tested feature(system service is but system service while logged off is not, yet)
