Hi, is Powerfolder able to to share data in a way, that an open file is locked for every other user but the one who has it open?
IOW could I share an Excel-File so, that it is opened as readonly for everybody, as long as it is opened for editing by a different user?
Thanks for any help.
Right now there is no way of doing this because this needs
to be organized by some central instance. We are preparing
some solution which might be able to provide this feature.
But we have no time plan for this.
If you really need this feature urgently, you might contact
our developers for an individual feature request with priority
development.
You can contact them by our contact form:

i created this ticket:
http://dev.powerfolder.com/projects/powerfolder/ticket/874#preview
its not included in some schedule yet, but i will speak about this with the team

That's not possible in a decentralized scenario as PF. Only the server version could provide that ability.
Currently there are at least a few problems:
scenario 1: 2 users - A and user B open the file before their PowerFolder is connected. It's neither easy to decide, who gets locked out and how to do that.
scenario 2: Again, 2 users - A, B. Both are connected, A has locked a file. Now they disconnect in PowerFolder. Is the lock still valid for B ?
With more than 2 users this gets crazy.
The only way to "solve" this would be to have a central computer (which defies the decentralizes structure of the standard/pro version).
