Hi,
I have just installed Powerfolder v3 on a desktop running XP and am trying to synchronize a network directory with my memory stick. However, when I follow the wizard it shows four specific directories (none of which contains information that I need to synchronize) and I am unable to search for or add others. Is this a limition of the free version, or am I missing an obvious method of adding directories?
Regards Colin
You can add ervry directory you like by selecting
custom and selcting a directory in the file chooser.
But basicly powerfolder is not made to sync
directories on the same computer(or usb stick) it is possible but its not easy.
this feature will be coming in one of the next versions.
To sync a directory from your computer with others see here:
http://www.powerfolder.com/quickstart.html
In general the only limitations
are the number of folders(3) and the
general size of all folders (10gb)

Thanks for your response, one of the problems that I faced was that when I select custom I cannot alter or add directories. The application will not let me edit anything at this point.
However, from what you say about the purpose of PowerFolder it does seem that the application will not be suitable for my needs at this time.
Thank you for your help.
Regards Colin
This is a file chooser you have to click on the three points:)
So perhaps one day we will be suitable for your needs, cu then.

Hello
I realised a similar if not the same problem. Well, at least I want to sync by the online storage of course but my problem is now that I added, e.g., my 'profiles' dir.
It synced (uploaded) towards the online storage but then I wanted to exclude some application data or better dirs in my profiles dir. How can I do that?
I can go after adding the whole profiles dir into PF and then when I highlight my folder it appears on the right a tab line with:
info -- data -- members etc.
and under it a pane with my folder list. But I cant find a way to edit it.. Is there such?
thank you!
d.
I hope I made my point crystal clear :) PS: It's a great and astonishing product!!!
so you want to edit the list file your are syncing,
the question is what you want todo exactly:
a: Do you want to exclude some files from being send to the online storage
b: Do you want to remove some files from the online storage?
c: Do you want to remove files completely from the Online storage and PowerFolder
sorry that i have to ask but i prefer asking to giving wrong advice
:)

Hi Bernhard
well, you are absolutely right. I want to edit the list (directory list) I am syncing.
Imagine, I have a huge list of applications on pc1 and all have their own applicatipn data in eg. %appdata%....
Now, it would be great to sync this dir to several other pc with the means of the online storage but with some exceptions :)
Let's say I don't want to sync data from adobe or google applications from within the above dir. I just want to exclude so some directories/files from the main tree that is to be synced :)
If that is not possible it would be great that I could at least say when connecting with pc2 or pc3 to the online storage which dirs I want to sync to them from the main tree.
Is it better explained now or, well, am I sstill something missing in my point?^^
best wishes
d
PS: ehm, well I think problem a) is what you asked for
it is possible to exclude files from syncing you can choose some
kind of file or some sub directory. todo so please go to the settings
tab on your folder go to the ignore patterns and press the add button.
there you can add file types or a path which you want to exclude.

Thanks alot again.
I checked your advice and found it. Would be very nice, if excluding would be easier like just clicking and marking via mouse / explorer tree.
any way
keep rocking!
You should be able to do this from the Files tab. If you select a directory and right-click, you should get a popup menu with an 'Add Files to Ignore patterns' option.
