PowerFolder is now providing its proven software to the GWDG to create a secure In-House-Cloud within the research facilities it-infrastructure. The GWDG is the university computing centre for the Georg August University Göttingen and computing and IT competence centre for the Max Planck Society.

With the built-in SSL/https support it’s not longer necessary to setup an Apache or Microsoft IIS webserver to SSL secure the web portal. Note: All data connections are and have always been encrypted.

For load balancing and/or network integration reasons you might still consider the classic approach.

You can use an existing SSL certificate and/or apply for an new certificate at a certification authority. SSL/https can be setup under Web/Preferences/SSL.

A brand new feature / service we offer is the complete re-branding / -coloring of the PowerFolder mobile web app.

Skin and color changes of your web portal automatically apply to the web app available at your server URL for iPhone, iPad and all Android devices.

As service we also offer to place an app into the Android market for you.

A big thank you goes out to our customers and users for their feedback on the WebDAV interface. It has left beta stadium.

With WebDAV it’s possible to access folders stored on your server / cloud as network drive. It’s not required to sync the files with the client app. This is recommend for large folders and/or folders with infrequent access.

We have just updated PowerFolder Server, our Enterprise-class Data management solution, to version 3.
The key component of PowerFolder Server 3 are the Enterprise addons, a powerful administration suite for PowerFolder Server and the associated Clients.
Other notable features include LDAP/Active Directory integration, SQL based transfer logging, a new web-based administration console and many more.

Dear PowerFolder users,

first of all I would like to apologize for the downtime of the cloud server (os006) in the past days.

The server is now back online and all clients should be able login to again.

The affected clients need to catch up with the synchronization so you should see some sync activity in your client. Please give the sync a bit time to completed.

For the downtime we will give each affected PowerFolder customers an additional 1-computer license of PowerFolder Pro (12 months). The license will be added to your account in the next days.

Background:

The server was badly hit by an unexpected double hardware failure. Several hardware components crashed at the same time. We were able to completely restore the server and preserve all data. We had to rescan/rebuild the folder index database, which means that some PowerFolder clients have to re-sync files with the cloud.
